A gorgeous spring morning at Pounawea in the Catlins New Zealand. Popular in the summer for campers and locals alike. Situated on the edge of the Catlins estaury the view is always changing with the tides. This is looking towards False Isle and Surat Bay...a popular walk of about 3.5 km one way along pristine sand. If one is fortunate sea lions can be found basking in the sun but should be left undisturbed to carry on their slumber. The crashing of the waves at the mouth of the estaury just beyond the sandbar is constant and depending on the state of the sea and tide, is either a distant gentle sound or an absolute roar!
